About Me

SAMMY_GRADPHOTOS-7.jpg

My name is Samuel Nute, but most friends call me Sammy. I’m a passionate sports storyteller originally from San Jose, California. My love for sports started early—one of the first photos of me is at 16 months old, sitting in front of the TV, captivated by a baseball game.

That passion evolved into a career pursuit in eighth grade when I realized I wanted to be a sports journalist. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to mastering the craft, culminating in earning both a bachelor's degree in Sports Journalism and a master’s degree in Mass Communication from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.

At ASU, I immersed myself in every opportunity to grow. I launched The Whole 9, a weekly baseball radio show on Blaze Radio during my freshman year, and began working behind the camera as a production assistant with Walter Cronkite Sports Network (WCSN).  As a writer, I started with WCSN's Volleyball Coverage Team before moving on to cover Division I Men’s Basketball, including the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas and the NCAA Tournament in Denver. My dream of covering baseball came true when I joined WCSN’s Baseball Coverage Team.

My experience also extends beyond writing and broadcasting. In the summer of 2023, I interned with the California Collegiate League, running social media and creating weekly content for all 12 teams. I later covered ASU Football for Devil’s Digest, and eventually served as Managing Editor of WCSN, helping lead one of the nation’s top student-run sports media organizations.

In 2024, I expanded my skillset internationally through a video production internship with iLikeMedia in Berlin, Germany, where I assisted with shoots and edited video content and photographed one of Europe’s most dynamic cities. I later joined Cronkite News as a staff photographer, covering major events like the NFL Combine, MLB Spring Training, and the WM Phoenix Open.

Finally near the end of my ASU career, I began freelancing as a photographer working for clients such as the Phoenix Suns.

I bring a wide range of skills to the table: writing, photography, social media management, video production, and marketing. My ultimate goal is to work as a photographer for a Major League Baseball team—traveling with the club and telling its story visually. That said, I’m open to any opportunity that helps me grow in the world of sports media. I’m a quick learner, extremely curious, a team player, and someone who is constantly looking for ways to improve.

Let’s build something great together.
